Somehow it doesn't seem quite right? Spending your real money to buy AoC gold - that is exchanging the real stuff for some virtual money to spend with a virtual merchant. However this is exactly what thousands of people do to try and get on in these games simply becausethey are designed for you to play almost full time (I wish).

If you've got a full time job and family commitments - it's going to take you a very long time to get some of the best equipment in Age of Conan even a horse to ride around on - or fall off in my case. This is really the situation I was in and indeed have been in so many other online games over the years - I love them but I simply do not have enought time to devote to them.

I myself did consider using one of the web sites to buy AoC gold - however I have certain other problems with these web sites and the services they provide.

Artificially bringing in lots of gold onto a server can seriously affect the dynamics of that economy and the game.
You are instantly giving yourself an unfair advantage from something that you did not earn in the game - a form of cheating I guess.
Fact - many of the gold farmer get some of their supplies by hacking into peoples accounts.
You spend the gold and two weeks later you're buying some more.
It could lead to your account being banned or suspended by Funcom.

To be honest I think my main problem is the simple fact that some of the gold suppliers (I'm not suggesting all of them) use hacked web sites, trojans and gain access to accounts via keyloggers. If I found all my hard earned AoC gold disappearing from my account I'd be upset to say the least - so there's no way I am going to have anything to do with that sort of practice.
So what to do well I think I found the next best solution to actually having to buy AoC gold - I bought a guide that shows me the legitimate ways that these gold sellers farm gold in Age of Conan. It worked and by following the instructions I made some serious gold part time in a few days. Spending real money on Conan gold !

I almost shocked myself at how close I came to spending real money to buy Conan gold. After all I've readily made fun out of people who have done just that in other games - so how come I came so close to doing the same?

Well the simple fact is that after two weeks playing when I could - I still reckon half the rowers on that slave ship had more financial assets that I did. Once I even logged in with the single goal of bringing my alt off the poverty line - spent all evening trying to get as much gold as possible. I did use some tips I found on internet forums but they didn't seem to help - 'harvest everything' seems like a good idea but the bank balance hardly budges - 'there's riches in leather' I was told in Age of Conan - well there might be but I couldn't find it. All the well meaning tips made me some money but painfully slowly and to be honest it was very, very boring.

This is when I decided to start considering spending some of my real cash to buy Conan gold. I browsed around the gold sites - some of them looked very professional although the spelling was pretty awful on a lot of them ( I suspect english is not the main language of the majority of these sellers!). I think I first went off the idea when I saw a few that said 100% safe - now I know that buying gold in Age of Conan is not allowed - it's quite clearly stated in the conditions of the game. Now I've no idea if funcom would actually ban anyone or suspend their account but they quite clearly reserve the rights to do so - if anyone states that something is 100% safe they are clearly lying.

I actually then did some more research and found out that some of these sites rely on hacking into accounts to get their gold supplies - hah they wouldn't get far with mine ! This is actually a huge problem with World of Warcraft with thousands of accounts compromised by these companies. Anyway I didn't want anything to do with this after reading more - even if 99% of the gold firms were legitimate I would have no way of knowing if I had chosen badly even if I got my gold.

Anyway in the end I decided it was find another game to play or try one or two of these so called Conan gold guides. I bought two of them and was rather impressed - one of the guides was excellent. The best bit about the guides was the detail - very specific instructions on how to make the most gold out of a specific activity.

None of this just skin creatures for leather - but exactly where to go, what to take and where to sell it. Someone spent some serious time working all this stuff out and by jingo it works.

So is buying an Age of Conan Gold guide- a waste of money ?

Imagine there was the real-life equivalent of an Age of Conan gold guide - you'd buy it wouldn't you? I mean imagine being given a handbook that if you followed any of the pages in it exactly then you would make 500 times more money than you normally make. Certainly I'd get a copy and as long as it all wasn't illegal, immoral or dangerous I'd follow it religiously and make loads of money.

Unhappily despite internet 'make a million' adverts stating the contrary the real life version doesn't exist - but the Age of Conan Gold guide does because I've bought it. Now I've been playing online games for years and years now and the problem I find is simply having enough time to enjoy the fun bits. In every game I ever played there are lots of kids waltzing around with all the equipment, best armour and weapons whilst I am struggling to get anywhere.

There is one simple reason why these kids have so much stuff - they spend 10 times as long playing the game as most people can. If you have your own kids, a job and lots of family responsibilities it's difficult to make time for an hour or two never mind - a day long gaming session. However much I would like to play for hours on end - alas it seems unlikely to happen in the near future.

Anyway having my resigned myself to not playing as much as a 14 year old was difficult but I still want to be able to experience all the sides of each game I play. I didn't want to be the only barbarian wandering around Hyboria on foot - I wanted the gold to buy a horse and learn to ride it.

So I bought a couple of Age of Conan guides - well a gold guide to be more specific as gaining gold seems to be the hardest part of this game. One of them sorted it for me - lots of techniques to which were a complete revelation to me and I started to earn gold much much quicker than I did before.

Apparently these techniques in the Age of Conan Gold Guide I bought are the ones the gold farmers use to make theirs. How much smarter to buy the method rather than the end result once.

Is there any other game where money is so hard. Age of Conan gold is legendary - none of this 4000 gold in the bank like WoW get into double figures and you're wealthy!

To be honest it's not the amount that's a problem after all that's all relative - yet again a developer has come up with the amazing plan that to keep our subscribers we need to make all the good stuff take hundreds of hours of play (meanwhile we'll have introduced something else that takes tons of Age of Conan gold)

There is a bigger difficulty than most games with earning gold in Age of Conan - the economies on many server are a bit like the UK one at the moment ! This doesn't mean you can't make money on them but the ways will be fundamentally different on each Age of Conan server - pick the wrong methods and you'll be grinding for hours for a silver piece or two.
